The Children's Room at the Back Mountain Memorial Library has a wide range of books and materials that will satisfy even the youngest reader in your family. The collection includes board books, beginner readers, junior fiction books, beginner chapter books, non-fiction books, read-along books with cassettes and CDs, music tapes and CDs, and videos and DVDs. The Children's Room also has a reference collection that is geared toward the young student, as well as educational computer games for a wide range of ages.
Parent/Child Workshop
This program, geared to children ages one through three years of age, emphasizes parent/child time together, interaction with resource professionals and a circle time of finger plays and stories. Workshops are held each Spring and Fall. Call the library for more information.
Story Times
Winter/Spring, Summer, and Fall story times are held each year for toddlers (2 years of age) and children three to five years of age. Schedules and registration dates are published in The Dallas Post (a supplement to the Sunday Times Leader), The Citizens' Voice, The Community News and the Suburban News and are posted in the library on flyers and handouts.

Summer Reading Groups for All Ages
In addition to the regular summer reading program, several reading and book discussion groups will be offered. The groups will span children completing Kindergarten through teens completing High School and will include books on the summer reading theme, "One World Many Stories." Parents and teens may call now to register for any of these groups.
Early Readers Story Hour with Donna Schuler, a pre-school teacher, will be held Thursdays from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm June 23 through August 11. There will be seven sessions. Children who have just completed Kindergarten and First Grade are invited to join these advanced story hour sessions.
Everybody Loves A Good Story with Maria Sorokin, 7-year story hour volunteer, on Mondays, June 20 and June 27, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. There will be two sessions. Children who have just completed Second Grade through Fifth Grade are invited to enjoy unusual folk tales from Japan and Poland.
Donuts and Discussion will be conducted by Janet Bauman, Children's Librarian. Tweens who are nine, ten, and eleven years of age are invited to come to one or all of these book discussion sessions. There will be four sessions over the summer. The first book to be discussed on Monday, June 27 at 6:00 pm will be Chu Ju's House by Gloria Whelan. Other dates and books are as follows: Monday, July 11, 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm Willow Run by Patricia Reilly Giff; Monday July 25 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm Listening for Lions by Gloria Whelan and Monday, August 8 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm The Color of My Words by Lynn Joseph. Participants are asked to borrow or purchase books for this program.
The Young Adult Book Discussion Group will be moderated by Kristin Andrews, an English Teacher with the Dallas School District. Teens, 12 years of age and older are invited to take part in one or all of these book discussion groups. The first book to be discussed on Monday, June 27 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm will be The Other Side of Truth by Beverley Naidoo. The next book discussion will be held Monday, July 11 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm and the book will be Deadline by Chris Crutcher. The other sessions will be held Monday, July 25 (Sold by Patricia McCormick,) and Monday, August 8 (The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie) from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. Participants are asked to borrow or purchase books for this group.
Relax and Read is a reading and reviewing summer reading program for teens who would rather read and write than meet and discuss. Teens write short reviews of any books they choose to read over the summer. The reviews are posted for other teens to read for book recommendations. Teens may begin reading and reviewing beginning June 14. Forms are available in the YA and Children's Departments. Each time a review is completed, teens have a chance to win a gift certificate to be awarded at the conclusion of the summer reading program.
